Your Podcast Isn’t Showing Up in Spotify? Check these 4 things

get your podcast listed in SpotifySpotify began admitting more podcasts into their listings in late 2017.

Media host libsyn.com worked it out so their customers could submit their podcasts directly to Spotify. All you need to do is create Spotify as a Destination.

However, some shows are still not showing up – including MoneyPlan SOS. That's extremely frustrating since I have been trying to get into their directory 3 different ways since 2015.

Hopefully you will have no problem getting your podcast into Spotify following the proper procedures – and avoiding the mistakes that will keep the show from getting in!

Submit your Podcast to Spotify through libsyn

If you are a libsyn customer, you have a direct line to Spotify through your account:

  1. Log into your libsyn account
  2. Go to Destinations > Add New
  3. Fill out all the fields
  4. Check the box for “Approve” after reading the Terms of Service
  5. Click Save

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS:

Click on the “Advanced Options” bar to expand additional fields.

  • Customize the show title
  • Upload different artwork
  • Limit or expand the number of episodes they display (No Limit = unlimited)

Once you are done, you can also go in and select the specific episodes that will go to Spotify – or prevent them.

I have a number of bonus episodes that don't need to be listed in Spotify, so I go back into Destinations, click the Select Content button next to Spotify, and uncheck boxes for episodes you don't want included in Spotify's listing.

de-select episodes you dont want to show up in spotify

Your Show Not Listed? Check these 4 things…

Rob Walch, VP of Podcaster Relations at libsyn, shared some things to look out for if your podcast hasn't been accepted in about 3 business days. (Listen to it on #TheFeed Podcast, Episode 111 beginning at the [24:20] mark).

Here are the first 4 things to look out for in our Spotify Destination:

  1. Make sure ALL the field have been completed
  2. *The title should contain no more than 42 characters
  3. **Get rid of any apostrophes in your show title
  4. Make sure only mp3 or m4a audio files are included in your Spotify feed

*You can create a Spotify-only show title in the Advanced Options field
**This is my recommendation, not Rob Walch's. He gives a much better explanation in #TheFeed Podcast, Episode 111 beginning at the [24:20] mark

What if you're not a libsyn user? Submit using Spotify's form

A couple years ago Spotify created an online submission form for podcasts. I don't know if they still check it, but you can give it a shot.

Steve, when you say “only mp3 files” in the Spotify feed, does that mean ONLY MP3 FILES, or does it mean “only AUDIO files?” I can understand not having a mixed-media feed with audio and video. But I’m curious to know if Spotify specifically doesn’t allow m4a files? I get that mp3 is still the dominant format in podcasting (and I’m fine with that), but there are podcasters who use AAC (m4a) instead, and m4a files are supported on most podcast syndication platforms.

In Episode 111 of the feed, Rob Walch mentioned something at timestamp 27:44 that they have to be audio files only. Also, quote: “Don’t upload audio files mp4. Make sure they are mp3 or m4a”.

I’ve amended the article to reflect that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Hi Steve, I followed all your advice and everything is good in my account, but I can’t find this Podcast on Spotify. What am I making wrong?

Hi Lorenzo. I’m afraid there’s nothing more I can advise you to do other than reach out to Spotify. If you’ve gone through the submission process and everything is fine in your account (who do you host with?) then you might just have to wait to see if/when Spotify approves the show into their directory.

Keep me posted on what happens!
