Most programs allow you to use a single key or combo to execute specific commands.
Think of all the programs where CTRL-C is “copy” and CMD-V is “paste”.
Keyboard shortcuts like these can save you tons of time when editing audio as well.
In this video, I show you how to customize keyboard shortcuts to what YOU want them to be in Audacity.

STEP 1: Open the Preference window in Audacity
APPLE computers: Audacity > Preferences
WINDOWS machines: Edit > Preferences

STEP 2: Open the Preference window in Audacity, Select “Keyboard”

STEP 3: Search for the function/effect you want to assign a shortcut
- TREE: By the menu tree (like the menu at the top of the screen)
- NAME: By the name of the function/effect
- KEY: By keyboard key or the combination of keys already assigned to functions/effects

STEP 4: Assign the function/effect to the key you want
- Select the function/effect in the list
- Enter the key you want to assign to the function/effect
- Click “Set”, then OK
